Budapest Ear Cosmetic Surgery
Auricle is a body part with a complicated shape. Its supportive framework is composed of elastic cartilage. It is covered by skin that is strongly adhered to its underlying base and is capable of follow the changes of auricular shape. Normally, the angle between the external ear (auricle) and the cranial surface is approximately 30 degrees. When viewing someone's head from the front, angles exceeding 30 degrees create noticeable deformations, the so called protruding ears. Development of the external ear is completed between five and six years of age. The most common deformity, the protruding ear, can be corrected at this age in order to prevent ridicule from other children. Correction can also be carried out at a later age.
In young and adult patients the surgery is usually performed painlessly under local anaesthesia with sedation. If required, the operation can be made under general anaesthesia, aswell. The surgeon decreases the angle between the auricle and cranial surface by reshaping and/or reducing the cartilage(s) of abnormal shape. The incision extends behind the ears, leaving no visible scars at the front.
The newly created shape and position is protected by soft, moist cotton-wool and bandages. Bandages and sutures are removed one week after the surgery. After that it is recommended to press the ears to cranial surface with headbands at nights for about two weeks to avoid crinkling or damaging the auricles.
Other abnormalities of shape or size rarely occur. Similarly to other types of aesthetic surgeries, we make digital photo-documentation before and after the surgery. In patients respecting medical instructions, postoperative complications such as haematomas or inflammation are uncommon.
The permanent aesthetic result of ear plastic surgery can be seen after about 4 weeks.
