Eyelid Correction in Budapest

Eyelid correction is a facial rejuvenating aesthetic surgery.  Ageing causes wrinkles (crow's feet) to appear around the eyes. Later the lower and the upper eyelid start to descend and sag. Loose, sagging skin and baggy eyes caused by fatty deposits piling up in the tissue compartments around the eye often convey an impression of a tired, sad person. Extreme hanging of the upper eyelid can lead to a narrowed visual field with disturbed vision.

Eyelid surgery can be performed separately on the lower or on the upper eyelid, as well as in conjunction with facial surgery.

Preoperative examinations may include general and ophtalmologic examinations. Eyelid correction is mostly carried out under local anaesthesia along with intravenously applied sedative. Curved incision is made in the natural horizontal crease of the upper eyelid, allowing the removal of excess skin and correction of the eyelid musculature, if required. Skin edges are put together with fine sutures.

For lower eyelid surgery, the hidden incision line runs parallel with the eyelid margin, just below the lower lashes and extends in a curved line to the crease of the lateral corner of the eye. In some cases removal of excess skin must be completed with the reduction of fatty deposits. After the placement of skin suture(s), the treatment area is covered with special plasters that prevent swelling without disturbing vision.

The patient is allowed to leave the Clinic some hours after surgery. Rest with the head elevated and chilling (ice) the eyelids are recommended. In the first week every activity involving increased abdominal pressure, such as straining, bending lifting should be avoided in order to prevent the formation of haematomas. Eyedrops can inhibit more frequent, inflammatory complications of surgery. More severe haematomas (a pooling of blood under the skin) or deformation of eyelids are rare, and scars are barely noticeable.

Stiches are removed on the fourth to seventh postoperative day. Following that the patient is permitted to use makeup and return to work. Swelling and bruising heal spontaneously within two weeks. Later on, sports and less strenuous activities can be started gradually.

Recently developed methods of laser plastic surgery of the eyelids and Botox treatment can be successfully performed only in early cases when skin excess is not significant.

Eyelid correction made by a qualified, experienced surgeon provides permanent aesthetic result, involving less risk and stress.
