Budapest Nose Cosmetic Surgery
Development of osseous-cartilagenous supporting framework of the nose continues until the age of 16 to 18 years. It is extremely rare to perform cosmetic surgery of the nose earlier, i.e. before the above mentioned age. This means that we only have adult nose surgery patients. A large portion of these patients seeks reshaping of his/her well-functioning nose. In addition to the demand for a more attractive appearance, physical complaints (breathing difficulties) are present in most cases. Also several posttraumatic or postoperative deformities may require nose surgery. Prior to individual planning of the surgery, radiographic examination and several consultations with an ORL-specialist may be necessary in order to evaluate the possible changes in shape that affect different aesthetic units of the nose. When correcting the embarrassing problem, relation between different parts of the nose and that of the whole of the nose to the patient's facial structure should be considered.
The surgery can be performed under local anaesthesia with sedation but in certain cases it can be carried out under general anaesthesia at the patient's request. More extensive surgeries involving the whole of the nose are generally performed under general anaesthesia. Incisions are made inside the nose, leaving no visible scars. Temporary swelling and bruising around the eyes and nose, which are common after the surgery, subside within about two weeks. Normal side effects do not include pain related to incisions but the tamponade that is inserted to the nose at the end of the surgery can cause an unpleasant sensation of stiffness. Nose blowing is forbidden for two weeks!!! Leaking fluid or blood should be blotted gently. Nose tamponade is removed 2 to 3 days after surgery. Following that, no significant fluid secretion or bleeding is expected. Plaster for the outer support of the nose can be usually removed 7 to 10 days after surgery. After the removal of nasal tamponade the patient is allowed to go home where rest, dry cool (ice) applied to the nose and protection of the nose are recommended. Nasal mucosa should be treated with special ointment and nostrils should be regularly cleaned by the help of a cotton-wool soaked with paraffin-oil. Dissolving sutures make suture removal unnecessary. After the plaster has been taken away, the new contour of the nose becomes visible. Nevertheless, the skin of the nose should adapt itself to the osseous-cartilagous framework. The overall final result can be evaluated only 2 to 3 months after the surgery.
The nose determines the appearance of the face. Unlike other unattractive and embarrassing deformities of the body, morphologic deviations of the nose cannot be hidden. That is why aesthetic expectations of the patients and responsibility of the surgeon are so high.
